It’s not easy to keep yourself all hyped up and motivated to work out. Sometimes you’d rather just eat junk food, watch TV and get fatter by the minute. Getting and staying fit isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. Here are 5 ways to motivate yourself to work out! You can do it!
- In my experience, there is only one motivation, and that is desire. No reasons or principle contain it or stand against it.

How many times have you decided to improve your look, lose weight and regain your shape, and then gave up? How many times have you decided to start working out or go to the gym, and then quit? Or perhaps, you have actually started exercising, but as time passed, your workouts became fewer and far between, until you completely stopped doing them? Well, it happens to many people: the initial impetus disappears and the motivation vanishes.
Even though we all know very well that doing exercises is one of the most important prerequisites for a healthy life, sometimes we just can’t manage to motivate ourselves to start or to continue doing them. Here are few suggestions to kick start your workout program and motivate yourself to keep on exercising.
1. First of All, Change Your Lifestyle
Equilibrate your diet, start drinking depurative and energizing herbal teas, take more care of your skin and this will surely motivate you to do even more for yourself, or that is to start exercising.
2. Choose a Gym That is Near Your House, Work or School and That Has Flexible Hours
And don’t expect that just the payment of the inscription fee will make you attend classes regularly! You would only be fooling yourself and wasting your money. Instead, start doing exercises at home and you begin feeling more energetic and fit, go to the gym and you’ll see how easy it will be to begin then.
3. Physical Activity Does not Always Mean doing Gym Workout Routines
Don’t choose an exercise program that’s a chore for you, but find something you will really enjoy! There are many physical activities that aren’t boring and that involve all of your body muscles! You can try belly dancing, tango, swimming, or pilates. You can do yoga alone or incorporate it into your regular workout routine. Apart from tonifying your body, yoga will also help you improve your emotional state and equilibrate your nervous system.
4. Think of a Long-term Goal
Motivate yourself to workout by thinking and focusing on a long-term goal such as preventing obesity, reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, alleviating back pain and keeping osteoporosis away, as well as slowing aging. Why not start from today?
5. What If One Day You Don’t Feel Like Doing a Complete Work Out?
Then you should do at least 15 minutes of basic exercises, such as abdominals or other that might be really important for you. This will help you maintain rhythm and continuity, stay in track and keep your motivation alive. And you wouldn’t have any chance to say “well, I didn’t do it yesterday, the day before either, so what’s the use of doing it today….”, knowing that the day after would be just the same.
6. More Ways to Motivate Yourself to Hit the Gym
- Always think of how good you will feel after your workout.
- Substitute your scale with a pair of jeans to see and feel immediate and concrete results.
- Go to the gym or do your workouts with a friend. You will have fun and at the same time you will push each other to exercise.
- Put on your favorite music while doing workouts. They will give you a positive boost of energy and stimulate you to keep going.
- Equip yourself at home: get some exercise dvds, a pair of hand and ankle weights and a few other fitness tools, and you will have no excuse for not exercising even if you don’t go to the gym. Plus, you will have the chance to do it any time of the day you like!
- Don’t forget that you need to cuddle yourself once in a while! Recompense your efforts with a good and fragrant massage oil to relax your muscles and tone and elasticize your skin.
